About Sumitra Bhudra

Sumitra lives with her parents and her younger brothers Praveen and Manish in a small mud hut in a remote village in Western India. This area is in a valley that experiences intense heat and drought seasons. The family uses wood as fuel to cook their meals. The water well the family uses is over half a mile from their home which means gathering water each day is laborious and time-consuming.

Sumitra comes from a Christian family; they regularly attend church services and have daily family Bible reading and prayer time. Both of her parents are unskilled laborers, which means they get arduous jobs at construction sites or in agricultural fields. Since both of her parents work outside the home, Sumitra helps with gardening, fetching water, cooking meals, household chores, tending livestock, and babysitting siblings. Sumitra wants to become a nurse one day. She loves reading and enjoys singing and dancing, along with playing kho-kho. Her favorite foods are chicken, chapatti, and mutton. Sumitra needs your help and support to provide for school fees, uniform, books, school bag, and other needs.

Thank you for helping provide Hope, Dignity, and a Future to Sumitra!
