About Shivkumar Dhobi
Shivkumar lives in a small village in Northern India. He and his parents, grandparents, one brother, and one sister live in a simple hut made of brick and mud. There is no electricity or running water in his home. They use wood and cow pies as fuel to cook meals. Shivkumar helps his parents by fetching water from the well located about 100 meters from their home. He also tends to the family's animals. Although the family still practice their Hindu religion, they are interested in learning more about Christianity.
Working as a simple laborer, Shivkumar's father makes only a meager income for his family of seven. His mother has chronic health problems which keep her from performing many household duties. Despite this disadvantaged situation, Shivkumar aspires to study hard and wants to become a teacher. To provide for school fees, uniform, school books, and other essentials, Shivkumar needs your help. In his spare time, Shivkumar enjoys drawing, as well as playing carom and other board games. His favorite foods are dal, rice, vegetarian dishes, and chapatti. Due to a lack of calendar use in his village, Shivkumar does not know the exact date of his birthday. His government ID gives his birth date as January 1st.
