About Mahima Deshmukh
Mahima lives with her mother and one sister in a humble brick and mud house in a town located in Central India by the lake and surrounded by jungles and mountains. The climate in this area is hot and humid with occasional drought seasons. The family uses wood and propane as fuel to cook their meals. While the water well is not too far from their house, gathering water for all their daily needs is tedious and laborious.
Her father has abandoned his family so her mother has to raise and support her two daughters by herself. She doesn't have any skills and has to take low-paid laborer jobs at construction sites or in agricultural fields. Mahima helps her mom by doing household chores, cooking meals, and fetching water from the well. Mahima wants to become a doctor one day. She loves to read and sing and enjoys playing kho-kho and carom. Her favorite foods are dal, rice, chicken, and mutton.
