About Hovendra Kumar

Hovendra lives with his parents and brother in a brick-and-mud house without electricity or running water. Their home is located in a small village on the plains of Northern India. The village experiences a warm climate throughout most of the year and heavy rainfall during the monsoon season. Hovendra assists his parents by tending to the family garden, collecting water from the well 200 meters from their home, and caring for his younger siblings. He also helps cook meals by burning cow pies and wood over an open fire.
The limited economy of Hovendra's village provides little opportunity for advancement. Knowing that education is crucial to improving his situation, Hovendra aspires to become an engineer. However, in order to cover the cost of his school fees, books, uniform, school bag, and other essentials, he needs your help. In his spare time, Hovendra enjoys dancing, singing, painting, drawing, and reading. He is also athletic and likes to play cricket, carom, and soccer. Rice, chapatti (Indian-style bread), dal (lentils), and vegetarian dishes are some of his favorite foods. Due to the lack of calendar use in his village, Hovendra does not know the date of his birth. On his government ID, his birthday has been designated as January 1st.
