About Anjali Diwakar

Anjali comes from a small village on the plains of Northern India. In the summer, the village experiences intense heat and heavy rainfall during the monsoon season. Anjali lives with her parents and three sisters in a mud hut without running water and electricity. To cook their food, the family burns wood and cow pies as fuel over an open fire. Anjali helps her mother with household chores by collecting water from the well 300 meters from their home and by tending to the family's livestock.

Because of challenging health issues, Anjali's father is not able to work much of the time. To supplement the family's income, her mother works intermittently as a laborer, leaving her four daughters at home without supervision and assistance. Anjali needs your help to provide for her school fees, uniform, books, and school bag. In the future, she aspires to become a preacher. Anjali enjoys dancing, singing, and reading, as well as playing carom and badminton. Dal (lentils), rice, chapatti (Indian-style bread), and vegetarian dishes are some of her favorite foods. Due to the lack of calendar use in her village, Anjali does not know the exact date of her birth. Her government ID has designated her birthday as January 1st.

Thank you for helping provide Hope, Dignity and a Future to Anjali!
