About Sewanti Barela

Sevanti comes from a dedicated Christian family. Her family's home is located in a remote jungle village. They live in a mud-and-stone hut without electricity and running water. Before moving to the Mercy Home, Sevanti helped her parents by collecting water from the creek near their home and by helping her mother with housework. The lack of economy in their impoverished village leaves no room for advancement. To survive, Sevanti's family lives off the land, eating native plants and making their own tools out of jungle materials as their ancestors have for centuries. However, recent government environmental policies have restricted the family's permission to scavenge.

Faced with few options, Sevanti's parents contacted the Mercy Home, seeking a brighter future for their daughter. Now living at the Mercy Home, Sevanti eats three hearty meals a day (plus snacks!) and attends a quality school. Most importantly, as she goes to church weekly and participates with daily Bible study, Sevanti is growing in the knowledge and wisdom of Christ. Her parents are thrilled with the progress their daughter is making academically and spiritually. She aspires to be a teacher and likes to draw and play carom (an Indian game) with her friends.

Thank you for providing Hope, Dignity, and a Future to Sevanti!
