About Prathiba Singh
Prathiba lives with her parents, and brother, Surendra in a one-room mud hut. They live in a very poor, small village in Central India. Her mother will sometimes earn extra money by being a nanny and her father works as a low paid laborer. Prathiba loves to help her mom with household chores. She handwashes dishes and clothes, collects wood and cow pies that they use as fuel for cooking, she tends the garden and fetches water from the village well that is over 200 meters away.
Prathiba dreams of being a doctor one day and being able to help the people of her village. She enjoys reading and singing and playing badminton and cricket with her friends. The family enjoys a very simple diet of dal (lentils), white rice, veggies, and chapati (flat Indian bread). On very special occasions, they will have either chicken curry or fish.
