About Mala Kumari Katara

Mala is from a small, remote village in Western India. This area is in a jungle in the mountains that experiences intense heat and drought seasons. She lives with her parents, two brothers, and sister in a mud hut. The family uses wood as fuel to cook their meals, but they don’t have access to electricity. The water well the family uses is over half a mile from their home.

Her parents have a little farm on the small field by their hut. Mala helps with gardening, fetching water, cooking meals, household chores, tending livestock, and babysitting siblings. Mala wants to become a doctor one day. She enjoys reading along with playing badminton, volleyball, and kho-kho. She enjoys vegetarian dishes with chapatti (an Indian flat-bread). Mala comes from a Christian family; they attend church each Sunday, read the Bible daily, attend a Bible study and pray together daily. Mala needs your help and support to provide for school fees, uniform, books, school bag, and other needs.

Thank you for helping provide Hope, Dignity, and a Future to Mala!
