About Shubhita Singh

Subhita comes from a very poor family. Her father died of tuberculosis, leaving her mother and elderly grandparents to care for Subhita and her sister Urmila. Uneducated and unskilled, Subhita's mother does her best to provide for her family by working as a field laborer. However, the meager wages earned from this work are not enough to provide sufficient food for the family, and certainly not enough to pay for a quality education for the two sisters. As a new Christian, Subhita's mother has prayed fervently that God would provide the opportunity for her daughters to have a hopeful future.

The answer to her prayers came through the Mercy Home. To their mother's delight, both Subhita and her sister Urmila were accepted into the Mercy Home. Now, Subhita attends a quality school and is learning academic skills as well as tangible life skills. Inspired by her new situation, she dreams of becoming a teacher in the future, so she can help other kids. In her spare time, she enjoys playing Kho-kho and carom, traditional Indian games. Shubhita used to go to bed many nights with an empty stomach, but now she receives three hearty meals a day (plus snacks!). Her favorite meal is dal (lentil soup), chicken, rice, and roti (Indian-style bread).

Thank you for providing Hope, Dignity, and a Future to Shubhita!
