About Sahish Bhil
Sahish comes from a dedicated Christian family. His ancestors were evangelized by Indian missionaries who traveled to their isolated jungle village. Despite his illiteracy, Sahish's father acts as the congregation's preacher by reciting Bible stories from memory. The family has built their hut using the wood, stone, and mud from the jungle grounds. Sahish's parents work as unskilled laborers providing only a meager income. They try to remain optimistic in their situation, but they are trapped in chronic poverty by the economic remoteness of their home and the lack of access to education. In order to attend school, Sahish and his siblings had to walk several miles to school on dangerous jungle paths.
Through the help of the Mercy Home, Sahish and four of his siblings, Saresh, Ashish, Savita, and Samita are able to receive a quality, Christian education. Sahish is also following in his father's footsteps by learning to study and love God's Word. He attends weekly Sunday school classes and participates in daily Bible study. Filled with hope by his new situation, Sahish now aspires to become an engineer. Sahish loves to read and enjoys painting and drawing. In his spare time, Sahish and his siblings like to play soccer with their new friends. his favorite foods are chicken, mutton, and dhal (lentils).
