About Riya Ahirwar

Riya came to the Mercy Home from a remote village in Central India where she lived with her parents, three sisters, and one brother. This family is first-generation Christians and had to give up their family heritage and rights when they converted to Christianity. They are very poor. The nearest town is about 15 miles from their home. As the young girls are growing up and being Christians, the long walk to school makes them very vulnerable to abuse, persecution, and even kidnapping. Their parents are very concerned about their safety. Her father said he wants, "a place where the girls will grow with Christian teachings and will be able to go to a nice school and will find dignity."

The Mercy Home became an answer to their prayers! Riya and her older sister Esha now live in a safe place where they can grow academically and spiritually. Riya aspires to become a nurse. She enjoys dancing along with playing volleyball and an Indian game called carom. Riya likes to eat dal, rice, and chicken but is not a fan of vegetarian dishes.

Thank you for providing Hope, Dignity, and a Future to Riya!
