About Kanchan Lodhi
Kanchan comes from a village in Northern India. She lives with her parents, grandparents, and two sisters in an old mud hut without electricity or running water. Unable to afford a proper roof, Kanchan and her family stack large leaves and other plants on top of their home for insulation. However, these plants provide poor protection against the intense heat of summer and the heavy rainfall of the monsoon season. The family burns wood and cow pies over an open fire to cook their meals. Kanchan helps her mother by collecting water from a well near their home and by babysitting her younger siblings.
To support his family, Kanchan's father works as a farmer. The income provided by this unstable work is scarcely enough to provide for the basic needs of the family. Kanchan needs your help to cover the cost of her school fees, books, uniform, school bag, and other essentials. She enjoys reading and aspires to become a teacher in the future. In her spare time, Kanchan likes to play badminton. Her favorite foods are dal (lentils), vegetarian dishes, rice, and chapatti (Indian-style bread). Due to a lack of calendar use in her village, Kanchan does not know the date of her birth. On her government ID, her birthday is designated as January 1st.
Thank you for helping provide Hope, Dignity and a Future to Kanchan!
