About Jyoti Kumari
Jyoti came to the Mercy Home from a tribal area where she lived with her parents and one brother in a small village near a jungle. Her parents used to live off the jungle, but because of new government's jungle regulations, her parents now have to work as laborers whenever they can find jobs. They are very poor. Their small home does not have electricity or running water. They gather wood from fallen trees in the jungle and cook their meals on an open fire. There is only a small elementary school in the region, but no secondary school for Jyoti to continue her education.
Jyoti is very happy to be accepted to the Mercy Home where she can live in safety and continue her education. She wants to become a nurse and help sick people. She says it is a very noble profession. Jyoti loves to read. She enjoys singing, dancing, and playing Kho-Kho with her new friends. Her favorite foods are rice and dhal (lentils).
Thank you for helping provide Hope, Dignity and a Future to Jyoti!
