About Bhavna Kumar
Bhavna lives in a small mud-and-brick house with her parents and brother, Devesh Kumar. Their village is located on an open plain in Northern India. During the summer, the village experiences intense heat and heavy monsoon rainfall. Bhavna's home does not have running water, so she helps her mother by collecting water from the well near their house. To cook their food, Bhavna's family burns wood and cow pies as fuel over an open fire. To provide for his family, her father works as a farmer.
A diligent student who enjoys reading, Bhavna dreams of studying to become a teacher or an engineer. However, in order to continue her schooling, Bhavna needs help to provide for her school fees, books, school bag, uniform, and other essentials. In her spare time, she likes to learn new songs, paint, and draw, as well as play carom, board games, and badminton. Some of her favorite foods are dal (lentils), chapatti (Indian-style bread), rice, and vegetarian dishes. Although they are still Hindu, Bhavna and her family have been exploring Christianity. Due to a lack of calendar use in her village, Bhavna does not know the date of her birth. On her government ID, her birthday has been designated as January 1st.
Thank you for helping provide Hope, Dignity, and a Future to Bhavna!
