About Basanti Kumari
Basanti lives in a small village in West India. The climate in this village is very hot and dry. This area often experiences drought seasons. The village is located in a mountainous area. Basanti is the only girl in her family with three brothers. Her father works as a farm laborer and her mother is a housewife. Her family lives in a small mud hut without running water or electricity. They use wood and cowpies to cook their meals.
Basanti enjoys school. She also takes a great interest in music. Her favorite food is her village staple: rice and curd. Purple is her favorite color.
