About Ashish Kalusingh Bhil
Like thousands of children in Central India, Ashish was raised in a poor tribal village. His family survives by farming the small plot of land around their self-made mud hut. The village is in an isolated location, surrounded by jungle, giving Ashish's family no chance of achieving prosperity or education. Through the work of faithful Indian missionaries, Ashish's parents were converted to Christianity. However, there is a severe lack of Christian leadership and teaching in their small village. Remembering verbally learned stories from the Bible, Ashish's illiterate father will often act as the preacher for their small village congregation.
Ashish's parents longed for their son to receive a biblical and academic education. Through the aid of the Mercy Home, Ashish and his younger brother, Alisha, are able to attend school in a safe and uplifting environment. He also attends weekly church services and participates in daily Bible study. Ashish enjoys reading and hopes to one day serve his community as a teacher. In his spare time, he loves dancing, singing, and playing cricket and badminton with his friends. His favorite foods are chicken, Dhal (lentils), and rice.
